After a decade away, Kylie Minogue graced the Met Gala on May 6th, dressed in a sleek, partly see-through gown crafted by Diesel’s creative head, Glenn Martens.
Martens, talking to British Vogue, shared that the gown, made from a special denim knit with thousands of tiny sparkling crystals, was themed around “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” He aimed for it to look like Minogue had been wearing it for centuries, with parts of the fabric blending around her body.
Minogue chimed in, describing the dress as both glamorous and mysterious, hinting at a hidden story behind it. She admired the incredible techniques used to give it an organic yet sparkling look, mimicking a slept-in vibe.
Though Minogue has been far from dormant, recently performing at her Vegas residency at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, her presence at the gala marked a significant return to the spotlight.
The Met Gala isn’t new to Minogue; she first attended in 2013, sporting a black-and-white Moschino gown for the “PUNK: Chaos to Couture” theme. Subsequent years saw her in a white gown by Marchesa for the “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” theme, alongside Katie Holmes and the then-Marchesa designers.
Lately, Minogue’s been on a roll, with notable appearances at Madonna’s tour, receiving her own Barbie doll for International Women’s Day, shining at the BRIT Awards, winning her second Grammy, and being honored at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards.
Reflecting on her journey at an industry event, Minogue expressed gratitude for the multigenerational support, reminiscent of her ’80s heyday. She emphasized the importance of embracing oneself at every stage of life, hinting at a message she might weave into her music in the future.
