Lady Louise Windsor, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, has embarked on a unique journey, stepping into the military realm despite not being an heir to the throne.
Currently studying English at St Andrews University in Scotland, Lady Louise has joined the University Officers’ Training Corps (UOTC), making her the first woman from the Windsor family to engage with the military since her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Lady Louise Windsor’s Military Training
In a series of photos published by ‘The Sun,’ Lady Louise can be seen holding an SA80 rifle, participating in training sessions designed for future officers.
Over the past few months, she has balanced her academic pursuits with her military training, which includes basic weapons handling, leadership lessons, and navigating challenging terrains under pressure.
As we have reported on RoyalFamily.News, although Princess Leonor of Spain and Princess Elisabeth of Belgium are undergoing military training as part of their future roles, Lady Louise’s motivation seems to stem from a personal desire.
She is set to graduate this summer and, according to sources close to the family, she aspires to continue her military career, much like her grandmother did during World War II when Elizabeth joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service as a Junior Commander.
There is also speculation that Lady Louise might further her military education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
This prestigious institution has trained several of her relatives, including Princes William and Harry, as well as other notable royals like Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Prince Sébastien of Luxembourg.
