Although Princess Leonor’s birthday was marked by the tragedy of the recent floods that have left more than 200 victims, the young heiress managed to find a special moment in the midst of the sadness that grips her country.
Leonor turned 19 on October 31, and despite the difficult circumstances, it was a significant day for her.
This year, the celebration was more low-key as the princess has been focusing on her military training at the Naval Academy, where she began her training this summer.
Unlike last year, when she celebrated her coming of age with grand celebrations, this year there was no big party, partly due to the situation in Valencia and other regions of Spain.
Princess Leonor received a very special visit that brightened her day.
Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia at Naval Academy
Infanta Sofia, her sister, did not hesitate to travel to the Naval School to be by her side on her birthday. The youngest daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia arrived in Marín just before leaving for Wales, where she is studying her second year at UWC Atlantic College.
¡Hola! magazine had the privilege of publishing a report in which Princess Leonor can be seen with her classmates doing maneuvers at the Naval Academy on her birthday.
Although initially some celebration plans had been contemplated, everything was canceled as a result of the tragedy, leaving only Sofia’s visit as a consolation on this day.
The Infanta arrived in Marin just a day after Leonor’s birthday and, after her visit, returned to Wales.
Sofia was due to return to Atlantic College on Sunday, November 3, the same day that the King and Queen were in Paiporta, in Valencia, visiting those affected by the floods.
The Infanta has already started her classes and will have no more vacations until Christmas. For her part, Princess Leonor continues to concentrate on her education and also celebrated her birthday with her classmates.
The Spanish press even mentioned that Gabriel Giacomelli, her boyfriend, traveled from New York to celebrate with her.
Although the celebration was marked by sadness, it is said that the situation has generated great concern in her and her parents, Felipe and Letizia. In spite of everything, the family’s strength and support seem to be the light in the midst of the storm.
