Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia have grown up under the scrutiny of public opinion due to their role in the Spanish royal family.
Although they did not choose to be born into royalty, both sisters have gracefully assumed the roles assigned to them. Leonor, as the future queen of Spain, and Sofia, as her older sister’s faithful squire.
Leonor and Sofía’s True Relationship
Over the years, King Felipe and Queen Letizia have worked hard to foster a strong bond between their daughters, emphasizing the importance of trust and mutual admiration in their relationship.
However, the question always arises as to what the bond between the two sisters is really like. Do they get along as well as they seem to? Recently, Spanish journalist, Pilar Eyre, a renowned expert on Royal Household issues, has addressed this question on her YouTube channel, “Al aire”.
In her video, Eyre made special reference to the Infanta Sofia, describing her as a “very cute” girl with modern features reminiscent of her aunt Irene.
She commented that Sofia is currently at the same boarding school in Wales where Leonor studied before, reinforcing comments about the good relationship that has always existed between the two.
“The sisters get along very well, they are less than two years apart. There is a lot of complicity,” Eyre assured, confirming the closeness between the King and Queen’s daughters.
To illustrate the nature of this relationship, Eyre recalled a memorable moment that made clear the connection between the sisters: the tenth anniversary of King Felipe’s proclamation. On that day, Leonor and Sofia surprised their father with a spontaneous speech during a meal, showing once again their complicity and closeness.
“It was a very spontaneous moment, which is what we want to see,” Eyre commented, highlighting the naturalness and affection that the sisters showed on that occasion.
The Sisters’ Present
Currently, the lives of Leonor and Sofia follow different paths. Princess Leonor is at the Naval Academy in Marin, where she is in her second year of military training.
Meanwhile, Sofia continues her high school studies in Wales. This physical distance means that the sisters do not see each other often during the school year, but that does not seem to have weakened their relationship.
Reunion of Leonor and Sofia
Soon, however, they will have a special occasion to meet. On October 25, the 2024 Princess of Asturias Awards will be held in Oviedo.
This event will be particularly significant, as it will be the first time Leonor will preside over the ceremony alone since she came of age. Although she will be accompanied by her parents and sister, Leonor is expected to assume a leading role, taking the stage to conduct the awards ceremony and deliver her traditional speech.
It is anticipated that, during this important event, Sofia will be present as always, quietly supporting her older sister, being her greatest ally and confidant.
