Growing up in the royal family is not easy because of all the responsibilities it entails. In addition, there is also the fact that people must always be exposed to comments from the press and criticism from the people of the reigning country. So they must grow up with a lot of discipline and education.
Queen Letizia of Spain, 50, is an example of that. The Spanish consort is one of the strictest queens in Europe. Despite her plebeian origin, she is a very strict person with everything that concerns the issues of the crown, trying to take care, above all, of the education of her daughters Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia.
Leonor and Sofia’s prohibitions
Growing up with the responsibility of one day being the representative of the Spanish monarchy, the princesses of Spain have grown up with some prohibitions.
They sleep early
Leonor and Sofia have a strict bedtime schedule. Queen Letizia has accustomed them to going to bed at 9 p.m., a very early hour. Her goal is to teach them discipline, to take care of their health, and also to get up early to make the most of the day.
Of course, it seems that this is only during the weekdays because on weekends they are allowed to go to bed a little later.
They cannot watch television
Television is part of everyone’s life, but not so much for the daughters of the King and Queen of Spain. They are forbidden to watch television on weekdays. As it happens with the sleeping schedule, the Queen allows them to watch their favorite programs or series on weekends.
The reason for this prohibition is to make them focus on their duties on those days, without any distractions, something that seems to work well.
They should not spend too much time on the Internet
The time Leonor and Sofia spend on the Internet is also limited. During the week there is little time they can surf the net. Letizia is somewhat flexible and lets them have fun at the weekend, although with certain restrictions as to the pages consulted. Just as with television they can’t watch whatever channel they want, something similar happens with the Internet.
Phones forbidden
When Leonor and Sofia entered the Santa María de los Rosales school in Madrid, Queen Letizia asked that the use of cell phones in the institution be suspended. Since the birth of her daughters, the queen has been struggling to keep her daughters’ privacy as much as possible and they rarely appear in public.
No sweets
It is normal that all children like sweet things and want to eat them, but in the case of Leonor and Sofia, this is something they are forbidden to do. The sisters only consume them very occasionally. This is done to avoid cavities and obesity, but I think she takes it to the extreme.
No junk food
Queen Letizia has made several prohibitions at her daughters’ school, and another important one is to force the school to eliminate unhealthy menus. No fried foods, no saturated fats, no sweets, and in general, no processed foods. All foods should be healthy, cooked grilled, or boiled, and all aimed at preventing obesity in your daughters.
No bad grades
The academic record is in the spotlight, especially that of Leonor, who one day will be the queen. That’s why Letizia is always on the lookout for good grades for her daughters, she makes sure to talk to their tutor on a regular basis.
