The Princess of Wales received sad news. The young woman who met Princess Kate, Liz Hatton, died at the age of 17 after a battle with cancer.
The young photographer touched hearts after meeting the Princess of Wales last October. Liz died in the early hours of Wednesday at her home in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, her mother Vicky Robayna reported on X (formerly Twitter).
The family of Liz Hatton, who was seen in October hugging Princess Kate, 42, after being invited to photograph an investiture at Windsor Castle, is mourning her loss

In a heartfelt message, the young woman’s mother wrote:
“Our incredible daughter Liz died in the early hours of this morning. She remained determined to the last. Even yesterday she was still making plans. We are so very proud of the kindness, empathy and courage she has shown in the last year. She was not only a phenomenal photographer, she was the best human, and the most wonderful daughter and big sister we could ever have asked for. No one could have fought harder for life than she did. There is a gaping Liz-shaped hole in our lives that I am not sure how we will ever fill. We have so much gratitude to every single one of you, whether you offered to help, or liked or shared posts – you ensured Liz’s last two months were her very best. She flew high until the end.”
The young woman’s mother also asked to share the photos taken by her daughter and also for financial contributions to fund research on desmoplastic tumors, which Liz was diagnosed with earlier this year.
Just a day ago, Vicky Robayna had shared a heartbreaking update on her daughter’s health, stating that they were preparing to celebrate Christmas early because they knew Liz didn’t have much time left.
“At the end of this week, we will celebrate Christmas early as a family. We know our time is short now.”
Liz, who was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumors, a rare cancer that affects the soft tissues of the abdomen and pelvis, in January, decided to stop her chemotherapy months ago to enjoy the time she had left outside the hospital.
She said on live TV: “We just have to try to remain positive because what’s the point in wasting what little time I have left. I chose to stop my chemo and just live my life at home and just deal with whatever comes.”
The last image posted on her Instagram account was on November 2nd with Michael McIntyre.
For now, the princess has not commented on the young woman’s death.
