Meghan Markle and Prince Harry make a fashion statement in Nigeria by matching the colors of the Nigerian flag.
After their morning visit to a school in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued their packed day with a trip to the Chief of Defense Staff headquarters.
Meghan & Harry Dress in Nigerian Flag Colors
In a quick change of outfits, Meghan and Harry swapped their earlier looks for ones reflecting the colors of Nigeria’s flag: white and green.
Meghan donned a white pantsuit from Altuzarra, while Harry wore a teal green suit.
Royals often pay tribute to the countries they visit by dressing in their national colors.
The Duke and Duchess were warmly welcomed by Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, who extended the invitation for their visit.
This marked the second stop on their first day in Nigeria, which started with a visit to the Lightway Academy with the GEANCO Foundation.
The foundation provides essential healthcare and education services across Nigeria.
At the academy, Meghan and Harry delivered uplifting remarks at the inaugural mental health summit, encouraging young people to prioritize their mental well-being.
“We are honored to start our journey in Nigeria with all of you. We believe in your potential, your teachers, and your ability to share your stories and be open with each other,” Meghan said. “You don’t need to suffer alone.”
The couple also announced an expansion of their partnership with GEANCO at the academy.
Meghan shared insights into their children’s interests, mentioning that singing and dancing are favorites for their daughter, and their son enjoys construction activities.
Over the next three days, Prince Harry and Meghan will engage with service members connected to the Invictus Games, an adaptive sports competition for wounded service personnel and veterans.
They will also participate in cultural events and charity visits.
Prince Harry, 39, made a trip to the UK earlier this week for various Invictus Games Foundation-related events, celebrating the tournament’s 10th anniversary.
The Duke and Duchess were spotted arriving at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday morning.
Brig Gen Tukur Vusau, Acting Director of Defence Information in Nigeria, highlighted the importance of the Duke and Duchess’ visit, stating:
“The visit aims to strengthen Nigeria’s involvement in the games and explore the possibility of hosting the event in the future.”
Meghan Markle Nigerian heritage
Meghan discovered her Nigerian heritage through a genealogy test, with Harry joking about it during last year’s Invictus Games ceremony in Düsseldorf, Germany.
He quipped, “Now, I’m not saying we play favorites in our home, but since my wife discovered she’s of Nigerian descent, it’s likely to get a little bit more competitive this year.”
