In the midst of the emergency due to the devastating fires affecting Los Angeles since January 7, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not hesitated to get involved in a direct way to support the victims and rescue teams.
The couple, who live in the exclusive Montecito estate, have once again shown their humanitarian commitment through various solidarity initiatives and their presence in the places most affected by the disaster.
Meghan and Harry support wildfire victims in Los Angeles
Last Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined as volunteers at the Pasadena Convention Center, which has become a temporary shelter for evacuees.
There, they collaborated with the renowned NGO World Central Kitchen, serving hot meals to those who have lost everything and to the emergency workers who have not stopped fighting the fire.
Dressed casually and wearing masks, Harry and Meghan were close and willing to help in any way necessary.
During their visit, they also toured some of the most devastated areas in Pasadena and Altadena, where they got an up-close look at the extent of the damage.
During their tour, they spoke with those affected and offered words of encouragement.
Victor Gordo, Mayor of Pasadena, acknowledged the couple’s genuine attitude, noting that their intention was not to gain notoriety, but to provide real support to those who need it most.
The Archewell Foundation providing support
In addition to their direct involvement, the Duke and Duchess have promoted solidarity actions through their Archewell Foundation.
They have asked citizens to open their homes to evacuated people and pets as far as possible.
They have also made donations of essential items such as clothing, toys and hygiene products.
The foundation, for its part, is looking for volunteers who can offer short- and long-term psychological support to the affected families.
The visit was not limited to supporting evacuees. Meghan and Harry, along with Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of California’s governor, also met with emergency responders, including firefighters, police and CalFire personnel, whom they thanked for their tireless efforts to contain the blaze and protect the community.
These fires, considered by President Joe Biden as one of the most destructive in recent California history, have already left 11 people dead and thousands evacuated.
Aware of the seriousness of the situation, Harry and Meghan have made available their home in Montecito to welcome friends and loved ones who have had to leave their homes.
The Sussex mansion, located about 144 kilometers from Los Angeles, has become a temporary shelter for those who have been left without a roof over their heads.
