A spokesperson for Meghan and Prince Harry said the Duchess’ visit to the town was “in a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief.”
Photos show Meghan leaving a bouquet of white roses in front of a cross at a makeshift memorial set up outside the Uvalde County Courthouse. The Duchess of Sussex kept a low profile during the visit, wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and a dark gray baseball cap in an attempt to go unnoticed.
Buzzfeed News reported that Meghan also visited a community center hosting a blood drive, where she dropped off two boxes full of “sandwiches, drinks and desserts” for donors.
Georjean Burnell, a volunteer at the site, revealed that Meghan was “really sweet.”
“She just came in with her team and started putting ice water in the bucket with us and setting out chips for people who needed refreshments before and after donating. It’s funny, we didn’t even know it was her until after she left and now we’re really sad. I mean, to be honest, we thought she was our neighbor.”
The wife of Prince Harry, visited the town days before heading to England to attend the Jubilee celebrations for the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II, it was believed that after the news of the stroke of his father, Thomas Markle, could postpone the trip but it seems that the plans remain in place.
