Prince Harry’s shocked reaction to an old headline about Meghan Markle has become popular on TikTok.
The headline, which described Meghan as “(almost) straight outta Compton,” was published by The Mail on Sunday in November 2016, shortly after the couple’s relationship became public.

The article wrongly suggested Meghan was from a rough area in Crenshaw, Los Angeles. In reality, Meghan grew up in the nicer View Park-Windsor Hills area.
In their 2022 Netflix series Harry & Meghan, Harry talked about the headline:
“Within that first week that it became public knowledge the first story was Harry’s new girl almost, in brackets, straight outta Compton. And I was like ‘woah.'”
This moment was posted on TikTok and received over 127,000 views and 7,400 likes.
The TikTok video also showed part of Harry’s interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes in January 2023.
Cooper asked Harry about a statement he made in 2016 through Kensington Palace, condemning the racial undertones of some media coverage about Meghan.
Harry explained that his father and brother, Prince William, were upset with him for issuing the statement because it made them look bad.
Harry said they felt they couldn’t do the same for their partners.
He added that Meghan faced similar challenges as Kate and Camilla but with an added element of racism.
Meghan also commented on the Compton headline in the Netflix show:
“Well, firstly, I’m just not from Compton. I’ve never lived in Compton so it’s factually incorrect but why do you have to make a dig at Compton?”
Harry explained that the palace’s advice was to stay silent, and that some family members believed Meghan was going through something they had all experienced, considering it a sort of initiation.
In 2016, Harry released a statement expressing his concern for Meghan’s safety and condemning the media’s treatment of her.
The statement highlighted the public and private abuse Meghan faced, including smear campaigns, racial comments, harassment, and attempts to invade her privacy.
Harry expressed his disappointment that he couldn’t protect her from this mistreatment so early in their relationship.
