Meghan Markle, 41, seems destined for a life without peace and quiet. There are always people willing to have an opinion about her. On this occasion, it was former protocol professor Edmund Fry.
Fry, who was Meghan’s protocol teacher during her induction into the British monarchy, has given an interview to the British newspaper The Sun where he criticized the Sussexes’ approach after leaving the monarchy
What did Edmund Fry say about Meghan Markle?
For the etiquette professor, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wasted a “great opportunity” to generate a positive impact on the world.
The 83-year-old argues that both the famous interview with Oprah Winfrey and the publication of Prince Harry’s memoirs “horrified” the public, marking a turning point in the public perception of the couple.
According to Fry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex talked about being global ambassadors, helping the Commonwealth, and engaging with disabled people, but failed to seize that opportunity.
Meghan’s former protocol teacher claims that the issue of racism in the Royal Family exposed by the Sussexes has tainted their image.
“Ever since the Netflix thing came up and the Oprah interview and things were being mentioned about racism in the royal family and so on, it tainted it,” he told The Sun.
Fry has not limited himself to these statements. He has also expressed that things are different now and that the positive comments about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have disappeared.
According to the owner of the English tea room Rose Tree Cottage, based in Pasadena, California, which the Duchess attended, he assures that his customers do not talk about Markle and Harry.
In his opinion, since Harry and Meghan left the United Kingdom to settle in the United States, the public has turned its back on the couple, considering them just another couple, unlike the popularity enjoyed by Kate and William or Charles III and Camilla.
Fry is “disappointed” in the Sussexes who in his opinion have made a fortune from media deals by fracturing The Firm.
Harry and Meghan’s estrangement marked a new chapter
Currently, the British Royal House is going through a time of low family unity. The storm was sparked when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to step down from their roles as members of the monarchy and distance themselves from the tabloid media that kept them constantly under public scrutiny.
In addition to the media pressure, the young couple made the decision to distance themselves from the Windsor Family because Meghan did not feel comfortable in that environment.
There were tensions between her and Kate Middleton, and she felt disoriented about her responsibilities and her relationship with other family members.
In the explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan revealed that some members of the royal family had raised concerns about the skin tone her son would have at birth. This controversy raised serious questions about the couple’s path within the monarchy.
In the end, Harry and Meghan decided that the best thing for them and their family was to start a new life away from Buckingham Palace.
The last time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were with Charles III, Camilla, Kate Middleton, and Prince William was in September 2022, during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
It only remains to wait to see if some form of reconciliation between Harry and his family will take place in the future.
