Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were noticeably absent from last night’s 2024 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where their controversial Netflix docuseries about their rift with the Royal Family failed to receive any nominations.
According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “devastated” that their intimate tell-all was snubbed by the Television Academy.
‘Harry & Meghan’ did not have Emmy nominations
When Harry and Meghan’s six-part Netflix documentary series debuted last year, it made headlines around the world.
While the revealing project earned strong viewership numbers, netting over 81 million streaming hours, it apparently wasn’t impressive enough for Emmy voters.
“Of course [the couple] will not show it, but they are devastated,” Seward told the Mirror.
As the editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, she has inside knowledge of Harry and Meghan’s mindset regarding awards and accolades.
Seward pointed out that despite the impressive streaming numbers, “they were obviously not good enough for an Emmy nomination.”
She believes Harry and Meghan saw the Emmys as validation for opening up about the struggles they faced as senior working royals before stepping back from duties.
The couple’s PR rep tried to downplay Seward’s claims, stating that nominations weren’t the goal of the project.
Having left behind their roles with the British monarchy for Southern California, Harry and Meghan are trying to build successful media careers.
So Emmy recognition would have been seen as a major step towards cementing their status as Hollywood producers.
For some commentators, this latest setback for the couple is a blow to their plans to conquer U.S. entertainment.
