As the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death approaches, the royal family is preparing discreet tributes and a possible reunion of the whole family.
However, the significant absentees will once again be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who will not be included in the tributes, and it is possible that even if they were invited, they would not accept, and even less so the Duchess of Sussex, according to Andrew Norton.
Elizabeth II, whose 70-year reign was one of the longest in the British monarchy, passed away on 8 September 2022 at 96.
The Duke of Sussex then returned to England with Meghan to attend the funeral and then returned several more times for the coronation of his father, King Charles of England, and later to give evidence in a court case against the Daily Mirror for alleged hacking, the latter times traveling without Meghan.
Meghan Markle in the UK
The journalist, known as Meghan’s “public enemy”, explained why she and Prince Harry do not want to return to the UK.
Morton, in a recent interview, revealed the reason why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be returning. The writer was asked if the couple, who now live in California, would ever set foot in England again.
The writer hinted that the TV actress’ pride would be the deciding factor in whether she would return to her husband’s country, as he couldn’t see Meghan curtsying to Kate Middleton.
“What, and Meghan Markle curtsying to Kate Middleton? I don’t think so, I don’t see that as a runner,” commented Morton, in a clear reference to the fact that Charles III’s daughters-in-law do not get on well and that it will be the Princess of Wales who will preside over the commemorative events with Prince William.
The relationship between the two women and the brothers is not on the best of terms, and even less so now that Harry has once again lashed out at his family in the documentary Heart of Invictus, in which he revealed that he found no support from any of his relatives after the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
