The relationship between Meghan Markle and Princess Kate has been strained for years, but a recent development briefly softened the tension between them.
According to royal expert Tom Quinn, the shocking revelation of Kate’s cancer diagnosis prompted Meghan and Prince Harry to reach out with a message of support, leading to what he describes as a “very temporary truce.”
Meghan Markle’s Message to Kate
Although their relationship has been described as beyond repair, the Sussexes reportedly contacted Kate privately to offer their well wishes, in addition to releasing a public statement expressing their hope that she could recover in peace.
Despite this brief exchange, Quinn emphasizes that it did not lead to a deeper reconciliation. “The messages of sympathy were strictly limited,” he notes, adding that once Kate announced her remission, the previous distance between them returned.
The rift between Meghan and Kate, as well as between Harry and William, has been a central topic of royal controversies in recent years.
Since stepping down from their official roles in 2020, Meghan and Harry have shared various grievances about their time in the royal family.
Their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey included claims that a family member had expressed concerns about their son Archie’s skin color, and Meghan alleged that Kate had made her cry over bridesmaid dresses.
Harry further detailed family tensions in his memoir Spare, where he accused William of physically attacking him during an argument about Meghan.
While some may have hoped that Kate’s health battle would pave the way for a reconciliation, Quinn suggests otherwise. “Beyond those formal messages, the feud remains,” he states, explaining that the lack of meaningful communication between them has created more of an icy silence than an active conflict.
The last time Meghan and Kate were seen together publicly was in 2022, ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. Given the lingering tensions, Quinn doubts a reunion is on the horizon.
He also speculates that the ongoing divide benefits the Sussexes in a way, as their role as royal outsiders keeps them in the public eye.

Adding to the complexities of their past, Quinn’s book also touches on how Meghan’s affectionate nature clashed with royal traditions.
Allegedly, her habit of hugging and kissing everyone—especially Prince William—made some family members uncomfortable. Sources claim that William, Kate, and King Charles would tense up whenever she initiated physical contact.
Furthermore, an insider suggested that Meghan had a “messiah complex” and believed some senior royals behaved immaturely.
As of now, the icy distance between Meghan and Kate remains, and it seems unlikely that their paths will cross again in any meaningful way.
