Amid the Royal Family’s struggle with cancer diagnoses, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s pursuit of new ventures has drawn sharp criticism from a former friend.
Lizzie Cundy, a royal commentator and one-time close acquaintance of Meghan, has slammed the couple for their “insensitive” timing and accused the Duchess of being out of touch with the gravity of the situation.
Why are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle accused of being “insensitive”?
Cundy’s scathing remarks come after the announcement that Harry and Meghan are currently working on two new shows for Netflix.
The first is a lifestyle series featuring Meghan’s take on cooking, gardening, and entertaining, and the second is a documentary covering the US Open Polo Championship in which Harry is set to participate.
Simultaneously, Meghan’s newly launched lifestyle brand unveiled its first product – a luxurious strawberry jam sent to influencers for taste-testing.
Cundy, however, finds these endeavors distasteful, given the ongoing cancer battles faced by Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, and King Charles III.
In an interview with GBN America, she expressed her dismay, stating:
“They’ve got these new Netflix shows about making jam and cookery and gardening, and there Harry’s about polo playing, it’s not really relatable. I think it’s pretty insensitive when Catherine’s going through what she’s going through and the King is going through his cancer issues too, it’s really insensitive, to be honest.”
The royal commentator further accused Harry and Meghan of being self-absorbed, claiming, “They never read the room, do they? They’re so into themselves they can’t see the wood for the trees.”
Cundy also took a jab at Meghan’s lifestyle brand, asserting that people are “sick to death of her across the pond” and that the launch of her luxury jams is “fake and phoney.”
Cundy’s critique didn’t stop there. She called on Meghan to apologize to Kate Middleton, whom she has previously criticized, saying:
“I think she should come out and actually apologise for what she’s done to poor Kate, and maybe not be so insensitive.”
As the Royal Family navigates the difficult waters of illness, for Lizzie Cundy Harry and Meghan’s projects are a lack of empathy during a period of family hardship.
