This Tuesday, October 18, a new episode of Meghan Markle’s podcast “Archetypes” has been released. In this episode, Prince Harry‘s wife talked about her experience as the briefcase girl in “Deal or No Deal”.
In this episode Meghan had as a guest the rich heiress, Paris Hilton, there they talked about their experiences on television.
Paris Hilton and Meghan Markle talked about stereotypes following the plot line of the Spotify podcast, such as racial, cultural issues, but in this case they talked about the character that has been imposed on them from an external factor: the ‘bimbo’ stereotype.
Paris talked about the docu-reality she starred in with her friend Nicole Richie and Meghan recalled her time on a TV game show where she worked as a hostess.
What did Meghan Markle say about the game show ‘Deal or No Deal’?
In 2006, Meghan Markle was one of the many girls holding a briefcase on the game show “Deal or No Deal.” There, Meghan was tasked with opening the briefcase requested by the contestants. A format where the wife of Prince Harry had only to show off her physique. A job that, she admitted, served to pay the bills, but did not fulfill her at all.
“I was ‘reduced to a bimbo’ while on ‘Deal or No Deal’,” said Meghan Markle.
Markle has recounted in her podcast that, prior to the show’s tapings, models lined up for different things: eyelashes, extensions, bra padding, free tanning sessions.
“There was a very simple idea of how we should look precisely. It was just about beauty, and not necessarily about brains,” Meghan assures.
Markle compares her work on the game show to her internship at the U.S. Embassy in Argentina, where she says she did get valued for her brains.
“I ended up leaving the program. It was so much more than what was objectified on stage.”
Meghan worked on “Deal or No Deal” from 2006 to 2007, then in 2011 she worked as an actress on USA Network’s “Suits” series.
It’s worth noting that “Deal or No Deal” host Howie Mandel admitted before the Royal Wedding that he didn’t remember Markle’s time on the show.
