Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, suffers the first setback with the content platform Netflix. The streaming giant canceled one of the projects that both she and her husband, Prince Harry, had produced after a million-dollar deal with the platform.

The animated series “Pearl” would tell the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who seeks to overcome the daily challenges for someone her age, but never saw the light of day. According to Deadline, who confirmed the cancellation, the series was just in the development stage.

The project, created by the Duchess of Sussex through her foundation Archewell Productions, was the first series the Sussexes would launch on the platform and was part of documentaries, feature films and children’s programming they hoped to produce.

Why did Netflix cancel Meghan Markle’s animated “perl” series?

It could be known that the streaming giant suffers a hard economic blow in terms of the fall in the number of subscribers, which has put the platform in trouble and forced them to make a series of cuts in programming among which is Meghan’s series.

In addition to the Duchess series, Netflix also canceled other children’s programs and has begun a staff cutback.

Last September 2020, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry reached an agreement of about $ 100 million to produce content for the platform, the American actress announced in July 2021 the arrival of “Pearl” where she debuted as creator and executive producer but so far no project of the Sussex has been released.

However, despite the bad news for Meghan, several experts assure that the agreement remains in place between the Duke and Duchess and Netflix and that apart from “Pearl”, the couple is also preparing “Heart of Invictus”, which will focus on the Invictus Games held in The Hague a few weeks ago.
