A video capturing one of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s final days as active members of the royal family has gone viral, with fans dubbing it “iconic” on social media.
In early 2020, Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step back from their royal duties, intending to spend more time in North America and pursue financial independence.
Following a tense period negotiating the terms of their departure during the January 2020 “Sandringham Summit,” it was confirmed that the couple would carry out their last royal engagements in March of that year.
The couple traveled from their temporary home in Western Canada to the UK for their final round of duties, which included several high-profile events.
One notable event was The Endeavour Fund Awards held at Mansion House in London on March 5.
Prince Harry founded the fund in 2012 to support wounded, sick, and injured veterans as part of the Royal Foundation, which he shared with Prince William and Princess Kate.
In 2020, the fund was transferred to the Invictus Games Foundation, overseen by Harry’s veterans sports tournament’s governing body.
Meghan and Harry Last Royal Duties
Footage of Harry and Meghan arriving at the awards ceremony, uploaded to TikTok by user portojj on July 16, has garnered over 453,000 views.
The video captures the couple’s entrance into the historic Mansion House amidst a rain shower.
Shielded by an umbrella, the couple was heavily photographed as they walked, with raindrops illuminated by camera flashes, highlighting the turquoise blue of Meghan’s dress.
The post has received over 55,000 likes and numerous comments, many praising the couple and their appearance.
One TikTok user wrote, “This moment will forever be “iconic,” while another commented, “One of the most iconic moments of their royal life. Her dresses told a story at that time. The photos were amazing.”
During her final engagements as a working royal, Meghan made bold fashion statements, choosing vibrant colors in contrast to the neutral tones she had previously favored.
In her 2022 Netflix docuseries, Meghan explained that her choice to wear neutral colors as a working royal was intentional to avoid drawing attention away from senior family members.
“Until that last week in the U.K., I rarely wore color. I never wanted to upstage or ruffle any feathers,” she shared with viewers. “So, I just tried to blend in. But I wore a lot of color that week…Yeah. I just felt like, ‘Let’s just look like a rainbow.'”
