The vibrant city has been chosen to host this international sporting event, and the official announcement was made today, Tuesday, July 23.
In a competitive bid, Birmingham triumphed over Washington DC to host the global spectacle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to return to the UK for the games in three years’ time.
Prince Harry couldn’t hide his excitement about Birmingham’s successful bid.
“Congratulations to Birmingham, UK, on winning the bid to host the Invictus Games 2027,” he expressed enthusiastically.
Harry highlighted the positive impact of the games and the unique spirit of Birmingham:
“We have no doubt the people of Birmingham will join in celebrating the unwavering respect and admiration we have for our veteran and service community, showing the world how their courage ignites hope and unites us all—something your city knows well,” reported the Mirror.
Earlier this year, Harry celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games at a special service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, though Meghan was not with him, and his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William, were also absent.
The 2027 Invictus Games promises to captivate audiences at the iconic National Exhibition Centre (NEC), featuring three new headline sports: pickleball, laser run, and the inclusion of esports.
