Last April 12, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Harry will attend the coronation of King Charles on May 6, 2023. However, a detail that drew attention is that the Duke of Sussex will travel alone.
In a brief statement, the Royal House of Windsor also announced that Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex would remain in California with her children.
“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet”.
In the face of Meghan’s refusal to be at the important royal family event, the idea of stripping her of her royal titles has once again gained momentum.
Meghan Markle stripped of title?
The idea of stripping Meghan Markle of her royal title is not new. A couple of months ago several British experts peeked at that possibility, especially after the release of the Duke and Duchess documentary on Netflix and the publication of Harry’s book ‘Spare’.
“The idea of stripping Harry of his title of Duke of Sussex has been discussed at the highest level,”. “The king is said to be not in favor, but other senior royals are less forgiving,” said Robert Jobson, royal reporter and author of the book “Our King: Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed.”
Piers Morgan, known as Meghan’s public enemy, has also, on more than one occasion, expressed his desire to see the duchess stripped of her royal title. In 2021 he lambasted the couple for using their royal titles to make money.
With the premiere of the documentary the presenter tweeted, “King Charles needs to strip these two poisonous rats of all remaining titles and ties to the royal family and he needs to do it fast before they destroy the monarchy.”
However, despite the statements another group of experts sees it unlikely that King Charles will strip the couple of their royal titles.
One royal expert told the Page Six site, “Stripping them of their title is not something the king would probably ever consider…mainly because it would be too punitive.”
He added: “It would only lead the Sussexes to claim it was a retaliatory action and proof that they were never wanted in the royal family.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received their titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex from the late Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day, May 19, 2018.
