Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s visit to Colombia began with a style statement from the Duchess of Sussex as she honored a local designer.

This Thursday, August 15, Harry and Meghan arrived in Colombia, on their first visit to a South American country, and for their second engagement, the Duchess of Sussex changed her attire.

The couple began their day with official engagements, where Meghan wore an elegant sleeveless Veronica Beard gown paired with Manolo Blahnik heels.

However, for her second appearance of the day in the afternoon at the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Bogota, Meghan wore a Navajo Weaver dress by Johanna Ortiz, a celebrated Colombian designer.

This dress, which can be worn with ruffle sleeves or strapless, was styled by Meghan with delicate thin straps.

She completed the look by letting her hair fall naturally, a change from the polished bun she wore before.

Meghan, who has worn Johanna Ortiz designs before, made an especially meaningful choice on this occasion.

Meghan’s choice of attire also reflects her constant support of local designers during her travels.

Earlier this year, during a visit to Nigeria, she wore several outfits by Nigerian designers, showing her commitment to celebrating the cultures she encounters.

At the Bogota event, where Prince Harry and Meghan met with Colombia’s Vice President Francia Marquez, the couple immersed themselves fully in the local culture.

The day began with a warm welcome from Vice President Marquez and her husband, Rafael Yerney Pinillo, at their residence.

For the welcome, they sipped coffee, tea and traditional Colombian cheese bread and talked about their shared values.

During this visit, Meghan and Harry will also explore the cities of Cartagena and Cali, further deepening their connection with the people and culture of Colombia.
