Meghan of Sussex By Lillian Torres

Why is it that Meghan Markle did not appear on the cover of Vogue magazine?

Vogue magazine has launched a special issue for the month of March 2024, dedicated to celebrating 40 “of the world’s most understated and blessed women”.

It is a project led by editor Edward Enninful, who bids farewell to the publication with this historic issue.

The cover stars include Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, Jameela Jamil, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham, Cindy Crawford, Jane Fonda, Miley Cyrus, Kate Moss, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Gemma Chan and Selma Blair.

They all posed for a stunning photo shoot that went viral on social media.

However, many royal fans noticed the absence of one woman who could have been part of this select group: the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

The wife of Prince Harry, who starred in the series “Suits,” was not invited to participate in this edition, although she was the guest editor of a special edition of Vogue in 2019.

On that occasion, Meghan Markle chose 15 women she considered “forces of change” for the September cover, including actress Jane Fonda and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
She also wrote a personal essay about her experiences as a member of the royal family.

Why wasn’t Meghan Markle on the cover of Vogue?

According to The Sun, which cites royal biographer Tom Bower, the reason would be a dispute between the duchess and Enninful during the creation of the 2019 edition.

Bower, author of “Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors,” claims that Meghan Markle proposed ideas that the editor did not like and proved difficult to deal with.

In addition, he says the two had different ideas about how to promote the issue, as Meghan wanted to preview some snippets online, while Enninful preferred to keep it a secret.

The biographer also reveals that Meghan Markle asked for the magazine to be released in the U.S. before the U.K., which upset communications director Sara Latham.

This would be the reason why Meghan Markle was left out of this special issue of Vogue, which has sparked both debate and admiration.
