Meghan Markle’s upcoming Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, has already stirred some controversy with Meghan McCain.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, released the first trailer for her lifestyle series on Thursday, showcasing her skills in cooking and gardening alongside celebrity friends like Mindy Kaling, Roy Choi, Alice Waters, and her “Suits” co-star Abigail Spencer.
However, shortly after the trailer’s release, Meghan McCain labeled Markle as “tone-deaf” for what she considers an “out of touch” project.
Meghan McCain’s reaction to Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle show on Netflix
McCain, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, expressed her disappointment on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Now that she wants to be American again instead of British aristocracy what she seems to forget is Americans want real, raw, uncensored.”
McCain, who once supported Markle, said her opinion changed “like the rest of the world” after Markle “disrespected the royal family.”
She pointed out that many Americans struggle to afford basic necessities, making Markle’s lifestyle seem unattainable and overly produced.
“All of this even in the trailer is highly curated, produced and out of touch,” McCain commented, suggesting instead that Markle should focus on initiatives that help people, like bringing fresh food to low-income neighborhoods.
“This is why the world doesn’t like you, nothing else. Just completely and utterly tone deaf to the moment,” she added.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California, Markle and Prince Harry have secured a $100 million deal with Netflix. The future of this deal, which ends this summer, remains uncertain.
In the trailer shared on her new Instagram account, Markle expressed her enthusiasm, writing:
“I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it. Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support – and fun!”
Directed by Michael Steed, With Love, Meghan premieres on January 15 and will feature eight episodes, each 33 minutes long.

The series, produced by Markle and Harry’s Archewell Productions, offers a behind-the-scenes look at Markle’s everyday life, blending practical tips with candid moments.
Despite the mixed reactions, With Love, Meghan marks another chapter in Meghan and Harry’s media journey, following their documentary Polo and their successful series Harry & Meghan, which became Netflix’s most-watched documentary premiere in 2022 with 81.55 million viewing hours.
Markle continues to explore her passion for cooking, previously showcased in her blog The Tig and a fundraising cookbook with the Hubb Community Kitchen.
