If there’s anyone who’s happy that the Invictus Games have come to an end, it’s Meghan Markle.
The Duchess of Sussex left the competition long before it concluded, but she did not hesitate to use her new Instagram account to congratulate her husband on his great work as the organizer and creator of the event, which took place in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, from February 8 to 16.
Prince Harry was on hand to present medals to the 23 captains of the participating countries and also took to the stage to address all those who have made it possible for the Invictus Games to continue thriving a decade after their debut.
“O Canada,” Prince Harry began, singing the first notes of the Canadian national anthem.
“You’ve only gone and done it again. Did we all have fun?” He then thanked the organizers, officials, authorities, “all Canadians,” the host First Nations, and the athletes’ loved ones.
“To our Invictus wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends, kids, grandparents, and friends, if you can, please stand and be recognized – we salute you,” said the Duke of Sussex. “To our comrades, friends or loved ones who we lost to battle or to suicide, tonight we honor you too.”
“In the pursuit of saving yourselves, you have also saved all of us – those who love you and those who don’t even know you,” he added. “To those of you whose journey to these Games has been difficult and uncertain, who questioned whether you would even make it here today, thank you for showing us what is possible. In the pursuit of saving yourselves, you have also saved all of us – those who love you and those who don’t even know you.”
Harry shared that he spent 11 days with families from all over the world, “with different beliefs, backgrounds, and abilities,” and that he was able to see “how you’ve changed them.”
“Being a hero, being a role model, it’s not just about resilience, skill, or power. It’s about integrity. Compassion. Courage,” he said.
“You give us hope through your healing, honesty, and humanity, and of course through your humor! You know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s an in-house joke,” which made the crowd laugh.
“Our entire Invictus community, whether here tonight or watching from home, is making the world a better place, and you’re doing it by being your awesome selves,” Harry concluded.
Meghan’s message to Prince Harry
To close out the week of competition, Meghan shared her love from her home in California.
“So proud of you,” Meghan, 43, wrote on her Instagram stories alongside a clip of the crowd cheering at Rogers Arena as Harry appeared on screen.
In the clip, Harry could be seen sitting on the jumbotron as the crowd stood up to clap and shout “Harry, Harry, Harry!”
The Duke of Sussex then gestured for the other members of the audience to sit down, as the crowd continued to cheer.
This moment came after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau praised Harry’s work to make the Invictus Games a reality.
As we reported here on RoyalFamily.news, the prime minister’s speech was so emotional that it nearly brought tears to the prince’s eyes.
