At the opening of Broadway’s Suffs on April 18, McCarthy, 53, spoke highly of Meghan Markle, 42, describing her as a “smart, interesting woman.”
The Little Mermaid actress expressed her bewilderment at the criticism Meghan has faced, saying, “For some reason, [she] is incredibly threatening to some people.”
McCarthy firmly stood by Meghan, stating, “I always think, how inspiring! I’ve never once been threatened by someone who is amazing. It’s really on the people throwing the hate.”
She praised Meghan’s accomplishments and dismissed the negativity directed towards her.
The two actresses have previously collaborated on Meghan’s 40×40 initiative announcement video in 2021, where McCarthy playfully poked fun at Meghan’s royal status.
Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, also made a cameo, showcasing his juggling skills.
After the video’s release, McCarthy complimented the couple’s dynamic, calling it “so cute” and sharing how Meghan’s “whole face lit up” when Harry walked in.
She revealed that the juggling cameo was Harry’s idea, admiring his sense of humor and willingness to “do something weird just for weird’s sake.”
McCarthy’s defense of Meghan comes as the Duchess continues to face criticism, particularly after her and Harry’s decision to step back as senior members of the royal family in 2020.
The couple now resides in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Through her remarks, McCarthy has demonstrated her unwavering support for Meghan Markle, celebrating her as an inspiration and condemning the hate directed towards her.
