The future queen of Norway, Mette-Marit, has shared some secrets about her life and hobbies in a recent interview from her official residence in Skaugum.

In this talk, she revealed fascinating details about her home decor, her closet and her new passion for knitting.

One of the most interesting stories is how she acquired a vintage dress by Swedish designer Ebba von Eckermann through an app.

    Passion for knitting

Mette-Marit has discovered in the textile world a great passion. She has filled her home with looms with which she creates different decorative elements, including an ambitious project: a giant carpet three meters wide.

This hobby has family roots, as her mother and aunts wove the traditional costumes that she and her cousins wore at their confirmations.

Even her mother continues to weave gifts for the family, such as the cushion she gave to Mette-Marit and her husband, Prince Haakon, at Christmas.

The Norwegian princess has also demonstrated her love of weaving by gifting her mother-in-law, Queen Sonia, a rug she wove herself.

Although the piece was not perfect, Mette-Marit was very proud to see her creation hanging on the dining room table in Mågerø, where the royal couple spends their summer vacations.

In the interview, Mette-Marit confessed that there is one gift she regrets.

In June 2022, she wore a very special pink dress to the opening of the National Museum in Oslo, hand-knitted by Aurora Verksted, an artist who works with people with and without disabilities.

Months later, she decided to donate the dress to the museum, but now regrets that decision a bit.

“I wanted to donate the dress to the National Museum’s collection. I was very happy that they accepted it. My goal with this was to show that weaving still has an important place in Norwegian society. But I regret it a bit. because the dress is very beautiful and I would love to wear it again!”.

Vintage dress by Ebba von Eckermann that Mette-Marit bought on eBay

Mette-Marit also told how she acquired one of her most praised dresses in a very curious way.

Reading a book on knitting, she discovered the Swedish countess and designer Ebba von Eckermann.

Fascinated by her story, she found a dress of hers on Ebay that she bought for very little money. Upon receiving it, she confessed that she felt as if she had won the lottery.

This klein blue midi-length dress, with a belt and ruffles on the sleeves, was worn for the first time on an official visit to Sweden in May 2022, where she made a curious color match with Crown Princess Victoria.

The interview not only showed the human and creative side of Mette-Marit, but also her appreciation for traditions and craftsmanship.
