Kate Middleton’s recent reappearance at Remembrance Day events has generated quite a stir.
The Princess of Wales attended her first events with the monarchy since announcing she had completed her cancer treatment, and her presence did not go unnoticed.
On Saturday, November 9, Kate was at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London and then took part in the solemn ceremony at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.
This monument, which was erected in 1919 in honor of fallen British soldiers in World War I, has become the epicenter of the commemorations.
Dressed in black, Prince William’s wife showed a serene attitude as she followed the ceremony alongside Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh.
However, what has really caught the attention was the reaction on social media after her appearance.
Many users noted that, despite her elegance, Kate looked tired. But what sparked the controversy was a comment from Narinder Kaur, a contributor to the program ‘Good Morning Britain’.
Narinder Kaur’s message about Kate Middleton
Kaur wondered on her X account (formerly Twitter) why Kate appeared to have aged so much at 42, suggesting that she might be a smoker and that this would explain her appearance. This comment was quickly criticized and called “disgusting” by many.
Different British media, such as Daily Mail, Times, Mirror, Sky News, and The Sun, covered the news, and social media users expressed their outrage, recalling that Kate had been battling cancer for the last year.
Phrases such as “appalling” flooded the comments on X, evidencing the general discontent.
Faced with the avalanche of criticism, Kaur was forced to retract and admitted that her comment had been inappropriate.
She also shared that her brother had undergone chemotherapy treatment before he passed away, clarifying that her intention was not to offend Kate because of her illness.
However, her response did not entirely appease her followers, as in a video, she insinuated that the princess had had “many privileges” by not having to work during her treatment.
This year has been especially complicated for the British royal family. In addition to Kate’s illness, King Charles III revealed in February that he had also been diagnosed with cancer.
On his recent trip to South Africa, Prince William confessed that he had experienced the worst year of his life due to the illness of his wife and father.
Kate Middleton’s reappearance has brought with it not only a moment of solemnity and reflection, but also a series of reactions that highlight the sensitivity of the situation facing the royal family.
A statement regarding yesterday.
Listen very carefully.
