The heiress to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor of Bourbon, has reached the midpoint of her naval training journey, according to new images shared by the Spanish Royal Household on Monday, April 14.
The training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano is currently en route to the Peruvian port of El Callao, after departing Valparaíso, Chile, on April 7.
New Photos of Princess Leonor Aboard the Elcano
At 19 years old, the eldest daughter of the King and Queen of Spain is undergoing military training in the Spanish Navy as part of her preparation to become a future monarch.
The Royal Household has shared ten photographs and a video documenting various activities undertaken by the princess during this educational voyage.
In the images, Leonor can be seen participating in multiple tasks aboard the ship: working in a red jumpsuit on the bow net, climbing high up the masts to handle the sails, delivering presentations on naval careers during theoretical classes, and even taking an oath alongside her fellow midshipmen.
Approximately 240 people are aboard the ship, including 76 trainees, of whom only nine are women. These students spend 75% of their time training onboard, with the remainder in port, where they engage in official, social, cultural, and military activities, representing the ship, the Navy, and Spain.
The journey, which will last a total of six months, began on January 11 in Cádiz, southern Spain.
After an initial stop in the Canary Islands, the ship crossed the Atlantic to reach Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) on February 14. It later navigated through the Strait of Magellan to arrive at Valparaíso, Chile.
According to the planned route, the Juan Sebastián de Elcano is expected to reach El Callao (Peru) between April 18 and 22.
The itinerary includes additional stops in Panama, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and the United States before returning to Spain in July of this year.
