King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Prince Edward have gathered for a new portrait to mark a significant event in Scotland.
The royals are in Edinburgh for Holyrood Week, a celebration that highlights Scottish culture, achievements, and notable individuals who have made valuable contributions to their communities.
New portrait after the Order of the Thistle Service
After the Order of the Thistle Service at St Giles’ Cathedral, the four posed for an official photo in the Scottish capital, which is also celebrating its 900th anniversary this year.
Dressed in matching traditional attire, they donned green velvet robes and black hats adorned with white plumes. Charles and Camilla stood in the center, with William and Edward on either side.
The Royal Family shared this portrait on Social Media with the caption: “The King and Queen with The Prince of Wales (known as The Duke of Rothesay when in Scotland) and The Duke of Edinburgh following the Thistle Service at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh today.”
During the private ceremony, Camilla and Edward were appointed to the Order of the Thistle, Scotland’s highest order of chivalry, which honors individuals who have made significant contributions to Scottish life.
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, was also present, but Princess Kate was absent due to her ongoing cancer treatment.
Following the ceremony, both Camilla and Edward were appointed as Royal Knights of the Order.
The Order of the Thistle is composed of 16 knights and ladies from various fields, including medicine, law, politics, business, and academia.
The royals arrived in Edinburgh to participate in engagements for Holyrood Week, which has been shortened this year due to the General Election, and will conclude on July 3.
