Princess Leonor’s visit to Punta Arenas, Chile, left more than postcards of the ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano.
In the small coastal town, she also sparked a controversy by the dissemination of some images captured while walking through a shopping mall.
However, after reviewing the case, the Magallanes Regional Prosecutor’s Office closed the chapter.
Princess Leonor Photo Leak
What was the verdict? There was no crime. The images were obtained in a public area, therefore, there is no infraction to prosecute.
The complaint came directly from the Royal House, which considered it unacceptable that these recordings were shared with a local media.
According to their version, security personnel of the mall facilitated access to the cameras, which in the eyes of the Spanish institution broke the rules of privacy in Chile as well as in Spain.
But for the prosecutor, what happened does not pass the criminal threshold, so he asked the court for a definitive dismissal.
Leonor had arrived in the southern city on March 18 as part of her military training.
The stop in Chile was part of the tour of the emblematic Spanish training ship, after its stopovers in Uruguay and Brazil.
The curious thing is that, although everything happened within the framework of an official visit, the episode with the cameras aroused a diplomatic and legal reaction that ended up dissipating as quickly as it arose.
