On December 20, the Infanta Elena celebrated her 59th birthday accompanied by the women of her family, among them, her niece Irene Urdangarin.
The firstborn of the emeritus kings enjoyed her special day sharing with her daughter, her mother, aunt and sister at the National Auditorium of Music, Madrid, she also enjoyed the XXV anniversary of the Opera Foundation of Navarra where Irene Urdangarin, the daughter of the Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin, could be seen.

The young girl, 17, joined the family group for an outing, something she had not done for some time. According to some Spanish websites, Irene traveled from Geneva, Switzerland, to spend the Christmas holidays at home with her mother and other family members.
The cousin of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia stole the show by wearing a very modern style. Specifically, she wore flared pants and a leather jacket. She wore her hair in a high ponytail.
As an additional detail, according to witnesses, the young girl was very attentive to her grandmother Queen Sofia and on several occasions took her by the hand.
Irene Urdangarin is rarely seen. Her academic life in Switzerland keeps her away from Spanish soil. It is possible that, as with Princess Leonor, once she finishes high school she will decide to return to Spain to study a university degree.
