The National Heritage Photography Contest is getting ready for its first edition, and it brings with it a special touch: the Infanta Sofia, the youngest daughter of Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, will be the godmother of the event.

This will be Sofia’s first solo institutional act, and is scheduled for December, coinciding with her Christmas break from UWC Atlantic College in Wales.

The contest aims to highlight the richness and diversity of the spaces and collections that Patrimonio Nacional manages and preserves.

According to statements made by the institution itself, this contest “seeks to highlight the Royal Sites, Royal Patronages, gardens, natural spaces and works of art that are part of Patrimonio Nacional’s legacy”.

The participating images must portray one of these elements and be accompanied by a title that reinforces the importance of the selected theme.

Although the deadline for submission was September 30, the results are expected to be announced in the next few days.

Sources close to the Palace assure that “the jury’s verdict could be published after the Princess of Asturias Awards”.

This contest has attracted the attention of both amateur photographers and the general public, especially for the involvement of the Infanta Sofia in the awards ceremony.

Sofia will be in charge of presenting the prizes to the winners in three categories.

The first place will receive a double nominative card that will offer free access for one year to the Royal Sites and monuments managed by Patrimonio Nacional.

The second prize will be a double ticket for one of the exclusive Stradivarius concerts at the Royal Palace in Madrid, and the third prize will consist of a set of books. In addition, the ten finalists in each category will receive a diploma.

Where will the awards ceremony be held?

The award ceremony will most probably take place in the second half of December, just when the Infanta returns to Spain for her vacations.

The environment close to the Royal Family has indicated that “it is very likely that the event will take place in the Royal Collections Gallery”, a space that has gained relevance within the institutional acts in recent times.

This contest, besides being an important cultural event, marks a significant step in the institutional agenda of the Infanta Sofia, whose participation is expected with great enthusiasm.
