This May 12, the United States celebrates Mother’s Day. It’s a special day to spend with family, but for Queen Letizia, she won’t be able to spend it with her daughters.
Princess Leonor is continuing her military training at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza, while Infanta Sofia is studying the first year of the International Baccalaureate in Wales.
Though Letizia has seen Princess Leonor more regularly, especially recently at King Felipe VI’s flag oath anniversary, it’s more challenging with Infanta Sofia due to the distance between Madrid and Wales.
This will be the first year Letizia celebrates Mother’s Day with her daughters away from home, but she’ll surely stay in touch with them.
It’s worth noting that Mother’s Day in Spain was on May 5, and Letizia couldn’t celebrate in person with her daughters.
It’s known that for the Queen, her role as a mother is crucial. Since Princess Leonor was born over 18 years ago, King Felipe VI refers to his wife privately as ‘mom.’
Letizia, Mother Above Queen
Though not much is known about the Royal Family’s private life, through official events and public outings, hints can be gathered about Queen Letizia’s relationship with Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia.
Despite strict protocols, Letizia has been seen sharing intimate moments with her daughters, offering them guidance on how to behave in various situations.
Smiles, glances, and gestures often reveal Letizia’s maternal side, described as overly protective.
Beyond photographs, Letizia has always been attentive to her daughters’ education, ensuring equality between them despite their differing roles in the institution.
She has instilled in them a love for culture, literature, cinema, theater, and sports.
Recent moments of bonding include attending the Women’s World Cup final with Infanta Sofia and bidding farewell to Princess Leonor with hugs as she entered Zaragoza.
