The training ship Elcano, with Princess Leonor on board, called this Friday at the port of Callao, Peru.
The heiress to the Spanish throne participates as a midshipwoman in her training trip, which is part of the training course for 76 students of the Navy.
Princess Leonor in Peru
The ship docked in the Peruvian port of Callao, on Friday, April 18, wrapped in the typical Lima fog, but that did not prevent a reception full of expectation.
Dozens of journalists and onlookers approached the port attracted by the presence of the princess.
The students, lined up on deck, saluted with military precision as the ship docked next to its Peruvian counterpart, the BAP Union, considered the largest of its kind in America.
During the arrival, the Peruvian Navy shared images on its official social network account X, highlighting that the Elcano had been escorted by several Peruvian vessels in the Paracas Bay.
Once the ship was docked, Captain Luis Carreras-Presas do Campo, commander of the Elcano, went ashore and was received by members of the Spanish Embassy.
This is the ship’s fourth international stop since it sailed from Cadiz on January 11.
So far it has called at Salvador de Bahia (Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay) and crossed the challenging Strait of Magellan before arriving in Peru.
The next leg will take it to Panama City, and then to other cities such as Cartagena de Indias, Santa Marta, Santo Domingo and New York, before returning to Spain in July.
The Juan Sebastián Elcano will remain in Callao until Tuesday. During its stay, the crew will participate in official, social and cultural activities, representing not only the Navy, but also Spain within the framework of naval diplomacy.
