Princess Leonor has begun her long-awaited training cruise aboard the training ship Elcano, and her first official stop was in Tenerife, where she was enthusiastically received by the citizens who had gathered at the port to see the heiress to the throne.
The ship docked in the morning hours at the Dársena de Los Llanos, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, after having spent the entire previous day at anchor in the nearby waters, as we had previously reported on RoyalFamily.news.
Princess Leonor in Tenerife
During her stay on the island, Leonor plans to enjoy a weekend full of activities, where she will be able to get to know the local culture and gastronomy better before leaving for her next destination: Gran Canaria.
This is an important moment, as it is the first time that the Princess visits Tenerife officially, and the arrival of the Elcano caused great expectation in the port.
As tradition dictates, both Leonor and her crewmates approached the gunwale to greet the citizens who had come to see them.
On this occasion, the Princess opted for a white uniform consisting of pants and shirt, plus a cap that, as a courtesy, she took off before greeting.
Her smile and her closeness made the moment even more special for all those present, who were able to see the future Queen of Spain up close.
Leonor and her companions, have scheduled several visits on the island, such as a tour of the Military Museum of Almeyda and the Maritime Captaincy of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Elcano will be open to the public on two open days during the weekend.
“We expect an avalanche of people,” said Pedro Suarez, president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz, anticipating the interest of citizens to meet the emblematic ship and see Princess Leonor.
Princess Leonor’s voyage route
The visit to Tenerife is only the first of a series of stopovers that the Elcano has planned in its itinerary.
After leaving for Gran Canaria on Monday, the ship will continue its voyage to various international destinations such as Salvador de Bahia, Montevideo, Punta Arenas, Valparaiso, Lima, Panama City, Cartagena de Indias, Santo Domingo and New York.
Undoubtedly, this training cruise will be an unforgettable experience for the Princess and her companions.
