This 2024 has been especially memorable for the Spanish Royal Family, marking the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of King Felipe VI.
It was on June 19, 2014 when, before the Cortes Generales, the then prince took the oath of office and assumed the crown, accompanied by his wife, Queen Letizia, and his daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia.
Since that day, the Spanish monarchy has undergone a significant transformation, in which transparency and closeness to citizens have become fundamental pillars.
Spanish Royal Family Highlights in Photos
To commemorate this anniversary, the Royal Household has shared a selection of 20 photographs that summarize the highlights of this year.
“Images of H.M. the King throughout this year in which the 10th Anniversary of his Proclamation has been commemorated,” they pointed out from their social media.
Among the most significant images is one of the King as he reviews a speech, dressed in shirt and tie, with total serenity and concentration.
In another photograph, he is seen kissing the flag of Spain during a ceremony at the General Military Academy, where he also presented Princess Leonor with the Grand Cross of Military Merit.
This touching moment marked a milestone in the life of the heiress, who was also named lady ensign cadet of the Army.
Another touching snapshot shows the monarch bending down to hug a child during an official visit, showing his most human and close side.
The Queen also had her starring role in this gallery. In one of the photos, she looks elegant in a black suit jacket as she descends the stairs of the plane during the first state trip of 2024 to the Netherlands.
Another image shows the entire family in a summer photo shoot celebrating the King and Queen’s 20 years of marriage. Felipe and Letizia appear smiling alongside their daughters, reflecting complicity and family togetherness.
Sport also had a special place in this selection. One photograph shows the King and Infanta Sofia congratulating the Spanish national team after its victory in the European Championship in Germany, with evident joy as they hold the trophy.
Another image immortalizes the King and Queen enjoying the inauguration of the Olympic Games in Paris, in a spontaneous selfie that went around the world.
In the cultural sphere, the gallery includes a moment at the Dalí Museum during the 50th anniversary of its inauguration, where Felipe smiles as he observes the artist’s iconic mustache.
The future of the monarchy is also captured in these photographs. One particularly significant image shows the King embracing Leonor, symbolizing her role as hope and continuity for the institution.
In addition, the final photo in the gallery captures the family gathered in front of the Royal Palace, admiring the videomapping titled “Felipe VI 2014-2024. A decade in the history of the Crown of Spain”.
