Prince George recently took a major step in following in his father’s footsteps—by taking to the skies for the first time.
At just 11 years old, the young royal experienced his inaugural flight, marking an exciting milestone during the last few days of his summer break before heading back to school.
Prince George’s First Flight
According to The Sun, George’s first flight took place at White Waltham Airfield in Berkshire, a mere 20 minutes from the family’s home, Adelaide Cottage.
This airfield holds a special significance for the royal family, as it’s where Prince Philip, George’s great-grandfather, earned his own wings with the Royal Air Force in 1953.
The proud parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, were reportedly on hand to watch their son take to the skies.
Though George was accompanied by a flight instructor for his nearly hour-long session, an onlooker mentioned to The Sun, “He loved it. It’s the right time to start.” Another source added, “His parents watched from the ground, and George seemed to be in his element.”
The family’s deep-rooted connection to aviation is well known. William, like his son, learned to fly at a young age, earning his RAF wings in 2008. He went on to serve as a search and rescue pilot and later as an air ambulance pilot.
George’s flying adventure came shortly after William returned to the very Air Force base where he earned his wings, representing King Charles at the Sovereign’s Parade at RAF College Cranwell.
