Lady Colin Campbell has criticized Meghan Markle’s decision to skip the UK for a trip to another country.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been invited to Nigeria by the country’s chief of defence staff.
Meghan recently found out she has Nigerian heritage, with “43 per cent” of her ancestry tracing back there.
Although Harry will be attending the anniversary of the Invictus Games in London this week, Meghan has opted not to join him.
Harry and Meghan on “quasi-state royal visit” to Nigeria
Lady C, speaking to GBN America, expressed her satisfaction with Meghan’s absence from the Invictus Games service.
She believed Meghan’s presence would have shifted the focus onto her and Harry rather than the Games and the cause they support.
Commenting on the Nigeria visit, Lady C warned that it’s risky territory for the couple, akin to a royal visit despite Harry not being allowed to use his royal title.
Is “dangerous territory” and a “quasi-pseudo state royal visit,” said.
She compared it to a visit by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to Germany in 1937, which didn’t go well.
Lady C hopes Harry and Meghan’s visit to Nigeria won’t end up similarly farcical.
“And let us note that they have announced that it is His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, notwithstanding the fact that he is not allowed to use the title His Royal Highness,” Lady C highlighted.
She believes the couple should steer clear of such visits, asserting they chose to step away from royal duties and should stick to that decision.
Lady C is concerned that if this trip goes well, Harry and Meghan might embark on more similar visits, setting themselves up as “American royals” alongside the British Royal Family.
