Former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Prince Harry, whom he accused of “betraying” Queen Elizabeth II and the British monarchy.
Trump said that if he returns to the White House, he will not give him the protection that Joe Biden gave him and could deport him.
Could Prince Harry be deported?
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle moved to Montecito, California, in 2020 after giving up his royal duties and seeking a more independent life.
They live there with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, and have signed lucrative contracts with Netflix and other companies.
But their immigration status in the United States could be in jeopardy under threats from Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the 2024 election.
In an interview ahead of the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC, Trump said the royal family had been too generous to Harry and that he would not protect him as Biden had.
“I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.” Trump told the Express newspaper.
His comments came 24 hours after Prince Harry appeared in court to determine whether he lied on his U.S. immigration documents about his drug use, which he confessed to in his book Spare.
Under U.S. immigration law, evidence of drug use can be used to deny a visa application.
These controversial statements come just days after Harry revealed in an interview with ABC that he had “considered” applying for U.S. citizenship and that he felt “very lucky” to be living in the United States.
