Prince Harry recently expressed his gratitude for his longtime friend Dominic Reid, who has stepped down from his role as CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation after a decade of dedicated service.
Reflecting on the milestone, Harry, 39, shared a heartfelt statement on Thursday, July 18, celebrating the Invictus Games’ growth.
Prince Harry’s Message After Invictus Games CEO Resigns
“Ten years on from the inception of the Invictus Games, we proudly stand as a community of 23 nations spanning every continent, fulfilling our mission of saving and changing lives,” he remarked. Harry emphasized his deep appreciation for Reid, saying, “I am immensely grateful to my friend Dominic, whose dedication and leadership transformed the Invictus Games from an ambitious idea to an internationally recognized movement.”
Harry highlighted Reid’s “tireless efforts over the past decade,” which have supported “thousands of wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans.” He concluded by thanking Reid for his “decade of relentless service” to the foundation. “What a journey it has been, and how fortunate we are to work with such an incredible community of people,” Harry concluded. “We pray we don’t need the Games for another ten years, but thanks to you, the team, and our future CEO, we will be ready.”
Reid announced his decision to step back from the foundation in a separate statement on Thursday. Alongside Harry, Reid was instrumental in launching the Invictus Games in 2014.
The event, designed for wounded, injured, and sick members of the military and veterans, has since grown into a major international competition.
The news of Reid’s resignation followed Prince Harry’s receipt of the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2024 ESPY Awards on July 11.
The Duke of Sussex was honored for his ten years of service in the British Armed Forces and his impactful work with the Invictus Games.
Though some found the award choice controversial, Harry accepted the ESPY with grace, acknowledging the late Pat Tillman’s family.
“I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather as a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel across 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality,” Harry stated. “This award belongs to them, not to me. That said, it is of great importance to me to highlight these allies, athletes, and their amazing families for their achievements, their spirit, and their courage at every opportunity, especially on nights like this in front of people like you.”
He finished with a heartfelt promise: “No matter the road ahead, we are here for you. We will leave no one behind.”
