Prince Harry’s warm embrace of his late mother Princess Diana’s siblings during a special cathedral service for his big project captured hearts online.
This touching moment gained attention, especially as his father, King Charles III, couldn’t make time to meet him.
Prince Harry Embraces Diana’s Family
The Duke of Sussex was in London for two days to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, a sports event he founded for injured veterans.
Before his visit, people wondered if he’d get to see his father, who’s battling cancer.
Sadly, Charles couldn’t find a moment to meet Harry during those two days.
He had a garden party at Buckingham Palace to attend on Wednesday afternoon.
None of the royals joined the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral, the main event of Harry’s visit.
But Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, and sister, Jane Fellowes, were there.
They shared heartfelt hugs with Harry in the cathedral pews.
This touching moment went viral on X (formerly Twitter) after Glow Lee posted it, saying:
“The Spencers showed up for Prince Harry. Lovely to see him hug his mother’s sisters. Unlike his official family (King Charles and Prince William), the Spencers have spent time with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet Diana.”
The post received over 460,000 views and 11,000 likes, showing how much people appreciated seeing Prince Harry with his uncle and aunt.
The Spencer’s showed up for Prince Harry. 🥹❤️
Lovely to see him hug his mothers sisters.
I’m guessing that unlike his institutional family (King Charles and Prince William) the Spencer’s have hung out with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet Diana pic.twitter.com/rtpzdte0na— Glow Lee (@GlowanneLee) May 8, 2024
During the service, Harry read a passage from Corinthians, a part of the Bible, about the importance of working together for the common good.
“Now there are varieties of gifts, with the same spirit and there are varieties of services, with the same lord, and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same god who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the spirit of the common good,” Harry said.
Meghan Markle, Harry’s wife, stayed home in California with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
It wasn’t a surprise that no senior royals attended the Invictus event. However, many hoped Harry and Charles would meet.
Brand strategist and author Justine Castellon commented:
“By skipping the Invictus event, Charles and William unintentionally gave Harry a chance to shine. Without them, Harry becomes the main focus of the news. It’s heartening to see Earl Spencer showing that #PrinceHarry still has family support.”
At Diana’s funeral in 1997, Spencer promised to look after Harry and Prince William on behalf of Diana and her sisters.
He emphasized the importance of letting the boys explore different aspects of life, which was seen by some as a critique of the monarchy.
