Prince Harry is facing criticism for what some are calling “hypocrisy” after a preview clip was released for an upcoming ITV documentary.
The Duke of Sussex is featured in a film titled Tabloids On Trial, which is set to air this Thursday, July 25. The documentary delves into his various legal battles with the press.
Prince Harry’s IVT Interview Unleashes Criticism
In the preview, journalist Becca Barry poses a probing question to Prince Harry: “To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed your relationship with your family?”
Harry responded candidly, saying, “It is certainly a central piece to it. It is a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press.”
Commenting on the new footage, broadcaster Carole Malone shared her thoughts on GB News:
“How do you compare that with what Harry does now? Harry now is an integral part of the media that he despises so much.” She continued, “He has become a media person and got very rich off the back of being a media person. He sells secrets about his family to the media. This interview is him being part of the media. So to hate it in the way that he does is hypocrisy in the extreme. And he doesn’t seem to say that he sells his own stories. He makes stories known to the media that he wants to be put out there.”
In the documentary, Prince Harry reveals that his motivation to challenge the press stems partly from his mother, Princess Diana.
The Duke also discusses the High Court case against Mirror Group Newspapers, in which he was awarded damages for phone hacking.
He remarked, “To go in there and come out and have the judge rule in our favor was obviously huge. To be able to achieve that in a trial is a monumental victory.”
For many online observers, this documentary highlights Harry’s battle with the press, but also opens up a debate about his own role in the media landscape.
