The recent revelation that former U.S. President Donald Trump has no plans to deport Prince Harry has sparked discussions about how this decision might indirectly benefit King Charles III.
According to royal experts, the British monarch, who is currently prioritizing his health and royal duties, could find some relief in knowing that this issue will not further complicate matters within the royal family.
Prince Harry’s Non-Deportation: A Relief for King Charles?
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams pointed out that deportation would have put an intense media spotlight on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, something that the royal family might prefer to avoid.
He noted that “Harry would undoubtedly appeal” such a decision, leading to ceaseless headlines and public scrutiny.
Given the ongoing tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family, an added legal battle would only serve to exacerbate an already fragile relationship.
British royal expert Hillary Fordwich shared a similar sentiment, emphasizing that Charles has always been averse to conflict.
Fordwich suggested that for the king, it is preferable that his youngest son remains at a distance, allowing him to focus on his recovery from cancer and his responsibilities as monarch.
“Regarding his wayward son Harry, it’s far better that he remains out of sight and out of mind,” she remarked.
Prince Harry’s visa
The issue surrounding Harry’s visa status stems from a lawsuit filed by the conservative Heritage Foundation against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The foundation has called for the release of Harry’s immigration records, arguing that he may have received preferential treatment or failed to disclose past drug use in his application.
Despite this legal battle, Trump confirmed in an interview that he has no intention of pursuing Harry’s deportation, stating, “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
Beyond the legal and political implications, there is also the personal aspect of King Charles’ relationship with Harry.
Experts suggest that while the king harbors a desire to reconnect with his son and grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the deep-seated tensions between Harry and the royal family make reconciliation difficult.
While Charles may wish his son well, it appears that keeping a healthy distance remains the most practical solution for the time being.
As he continues his battle with cancer and upholds his duties as head of state, the stability of the working royal family remains his primary concern.
Fordwich believes that Trump’s decision aligns with Charles’ interests, as maintaining diplomatic relations and avoiding unnecessary turmoil within the royal household is paramount.
