Prince Harry’s surprise call to King Charles III on the occasion of the monarch’s 75th birthday has raised hopes of easing tensions within the beleaguered House of Windsor.
The Daily Telegraph reported on Nov. 15, that Harry made a conciliatory call to Charles on the occasion of his birthday.
First reason: Prince Harry’s phone call
According to reports. the call “marked a notable shift in tone,” claiming that Harry spoke to his father along with his wife Meghan Markle and their children Archie and Lili.
The call marks a tentative deviation from the pair’s largely severed relationship since Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
In interviews this year, Harry asserted Charles and other royals needed to acknowledge accountability in family issues exposed in his memoir Spare.
However, Charles has “kept the door open” for reconciliation according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams.
By all accounts, Harry’s recent birthday call to Charles III went off without a hitch. For royal expert Fitzwilliams, perhaps this is the first step in restoring trust.
If Harry and Charles establish warmer ties, speculation will grow over the Sussexes potentially spending more time in Britain.
Second reason: King Charles’s olive branch
To celebrate the 75th birthday of the king, a video was released with pictures where a review of the most significant moments of Charles III is made.
One of the photographs used for the video caught the attention of observers. It is a significant and emotional photo of father and son dating from 1997.
The image Charles chose is very meaningful to his son, Prince Harry as it was his first trip with his father after Diana’s death.
The Duke of Sussex spoke of how significant that trip was in his memoir ‘Spare’, but at the same time revealed how Charles was an absent father.
Harry recounted that, despite everything he was delighted to embark on a trip with his father.
He revealed that the trip to Johannesburg was a success and described it as an exciting adventure that brought him closer to his father.
Harry’s recent phone call and the photograph chosen by King Charles for his video tribute signal the hope of at least more cordial family relations.
