The dispute over Prince Harry’s immigration documents in the United States is still far from over. The State Department has fully withheld an initial set of 18 files pertaining to the Duke of Sussex, while it continues to review an additional 289 documents that are part of the same request.

In total, the authorities have 307 documents in their possession, amounting to 2,487 pages.

The case originated from a request for information filed by the Heritage Foundation, which sought records related to Harry’s visa and his past drug use. The group argued that the prince may have had to disclose experiences with cannabis, cocaine, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and ayahuasca when applying to enter the United States.

However, Judge Carl Nichols had already determined that Harry’s right to privacy outweighed the public interest in disclosing that information.

Now, all eyes are on what might happen with the remaining documents. The first report submitted to a federal court indicates that all 18 files reviewed through the end of July were withheld in full, based on the Immigration and Nationality Act and the exceptions outlined in the Freedom of Information Act.

That doesn’t mean the others will face the same fate, and there’s still a chance that some documents could be made public.

When will the future of Harry’s documents be known?

For now, we’ll have to wait. The parties plan to submit a new joint report on October 13, 2026, a date that could provide more insight into the process.

In this story, the dispute no longer revolves solely around the prince’s visa, but also about what information might become known regarding how various U.S. government agencies handled his case.
