The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, is not one to be defeated by adversity.
On the same day that the British judiciary rejected his request to maintain his level of security when he visits the United Kingdom, the son of King Charles showed his most supportive and committed side for a cause he is passionate about: the WellChild Awards.
On Wednesday, February 28, the British government rejected Prince Harry’s request to be guaranteed the same level of protection he had before he gave up his royal duties and moved to California with his wife, Meghan Markle.
According to the BBC, Harry and his lawyers felt that the government’s decision was unfair and put his and his family’s safety at risk.

However, Prince Harry was undaunted by the setback and a few hours later made a public appearance to encourage people to take part in the WellChild Awards, an initiative he has sponsored for years and one of the few he has maintained since leaving the royal family in 2020.
The WellChild Awards celebrate the strength and spirit of children with serious illnesses and the people who care for and support them. WellChild is a UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for these children and their families.
In a pre-recorded video shared with X, the Duke of Sussex expressed his admiration and gratitude for this very special community and asked people to nominate candidates who inspire them for the upcoming awards.
“The WellChild Awards is our chance to celebrate the extraordinary strength and spirit of young people with complex medical conditions from across the United Kingdom,” said the Duke of Sussex in a prerecorded clip. “It allows us to shine a spotlight on the resilience and positivity that they demonstrate every single day and to recognize the incredible support from the families, friends and professionals around them.”
“It is such a privilege to honor the immense courage and compassion of this incredible community. But to do that, we need you to take a moment and nominate the remarkable individuals who inspire you,” he continued.
“Your involvement makes a huge difference so please join us in celebrating the amazing superstars who will be recognized at the 2024 WellChild Awards,” said Prince Harry.
Nominations for the 2024 WellChild Awards are open until March 18, and the ceremony usually takes place between September and October.
