Prince Louis will have one of the most important royal titles in the British royal family

In recent days the British royal household has made some adjustments to the royal titles of family members. Some have been well received and others not so much. Such as the complaint of Lady Helen Nall, the wife of the baronet of Nall, who expressed her displeasure that Lady Louise, the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, did not receive the title of Countess of Wessex.

Precisely the appointment of these as Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh is what is giving rise to talk, because Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II can only carry this title while he is alive.

What is the royal title of Prince Louis?

An agreement between King Charles and his brother would have Prince Louis, the son of William and Kate as the protagonist, and is that Charles wants the Duchy of Edinburgh, popularized by his father, to return to the crown when Edward dies and not to be inherited to his son James, now Earl of Wessex.

According to The Mirror, when the dukedom returns to the crown they will be Louis the ideal candidate for the title. Prince George would become king in the future, so Louis being fourth in line to the throne is the perfect choice to be Duke of Edinburgh.

The Duchy of Edinburgh fell to Prince Philip in 1947, following his marriage to the then Princess Elizabeth, who was Duchess of Edinburgh. The prestige that Philip gave to this title around the world made it become one of the most important titles of the royal family.

What is the origin of the Duchy of Edinburgh?

This title was initially created for King George I in favor of his grandson, Prince Frederick, the Duchy of Edinburgh ceased to be used in 1760 when the prince became king.

In 1866 Queen Victoria decided to regain it for Prince Alfred, her second son, instead of giving him the Duchy of York as was tradition. Alfred married Maria Alexandrovna of Russia and became head of the German house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, as his uncle died without leaving heirs.

Alfred had a son but died before he could become the new Duke of Edinburgh. When Alfred died, the title reverted to the crown and it was not until Queen Elizabeth’s father conferred it on Prince Philip.

Now it is one of the royal titles with more prestige and King Charles knows it, so on the death of Edward must return to the crown and has decided to take care of it and give it to whoever is a respected person, in this case, would be Prince Louis.
