The appearance of Princess Leonor, 17, wearing a necklace with Arabic lettering has sparked all kinds of speculation about its origin. One theory links her to a Moroccan prince.
In the photos of Princess Leonor’s graduation, released by the Royal House on May 20, 2023, it can be seen that the daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia wears a necklace with the word: “alhubu” which means “Love”.
The princess debuted the garment last summer in Mallorca and has since sparked rumors about the true origin of the necklace. The most recent rumor is linked to Prince Moulay Hassan, a young man allegedly romantically interested in the princess.
Who is Moulay Hassan?
Moulay Hassan is a young prince of Morocco, 20 years old, son of King Mohamed VI and Lalla Salma, and heir to the throne in his country, like Leonor. Moulay is also one of the most unknown members of the international royalty.
Hassan has accompanied his father to many important events since he was very young. He studies Governance, Economic and Social Sciences at the Mohamed VI Polytechnic University and speaks several languages, in addition to Arabic and French, English, and Spanish. He loves soccer and has been the protagonist of anecdotes since he did not like to shake hands at official events.
The Spanish press began to associate him with the princess because he belongs to a royal house and is of a similar age to Leonor. However, there is no evidence of any kind of relationship between the two. It is not even known if they have ever met personally.
Although the opposite is the case with their grandparents, King Juan Carlos, and King Hassan II have always maintained a very close relationship. So much so that they called each other “brothers”.
At the moment, there is no official source that confirms that Leonor and the Moroccan prince know each other, which increases the mystery of the origin of the necklace.
There are some sources that point out that it could be a gift from King Juan Carlos who currently lives in Abu Dhabi, but some dismiss that idea because the emeritus is not in the habit of making such gifts. For now, everything will remain a mystery.
