Prince Harry’s discreet return to the United Kingdom has sparked intense debate and speculation about a possible reinstatement of the Duke of Sussex to the royal family.
This visit has also opened the door to a long-awaited reconciliation with his brother, Prince William.
Since Harry stepped down from his royal duties in 2020, the relationship between the two brothers has deteriorated significantly, especially after Meghan Markle’s husband’s controversial revelations about his life in the monarchy.
Experts in the field have indicated that a reconciliation seems unlikely, especially after the rumors surrounding this recent meeting between them.
What will happen with the reconciliation of William and Harry?
Last week, it became known that the Duke met with William during his secret visit, although it is reported that the two kept some distance.
This reunion took place at the funeral of Robert Fellowes, husband of his aunt Jane, Princess Diana’s sister.
Some analysts, such as Maureen Callahan in GB News, suggest that Harry’s unexpected presence at the funeral may have offered an opportunity to rejoin the royal family. However, leaks about the event have dashed those hopes.
Callahan commented, “What is very interesting about the memorial and the joint attendance of William and Harry is that it seemed it could be a tiny step on the road to reconciliation, had no leaks emerged.
“Guess what, leaks emerged. The leaks say that everybody was ‘so pleased’ to see Harry and that he was in ‘remarkably good form’.
“They imply he actually spoke at the memorial or had some form of significance. It seems as though that was not the case.
“He simply sat in the back and tried not to make a fuss, so gold star.”
This memorial service was held near the royal estate at Sandringham.
So far this year, Prince Harry has returned home several times. The first was in February, just after the announcement that the king was suffering from cancer, and in March he participated in a religious service for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.
For the latter visit, Harry opted to stay at the home of his uncle Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, avoiding the royal family’s properties.
The future of the relationship between Princes William and Harry remains uncertain, and recent interactions have made it clear that the reconciliation, though longed for by many, still faces major obstacles.
