Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Message
On July 29, the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 42, conveyed their heartfelt message through their social media accounts.
“As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends, and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through,” they wrote. “We send our love, thoughts, and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack.”
They also extended their gratitude to the emergency responders who handled the situation with remarkable compassion and professionalism.
“Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most,” they added. The message was signed with the initials “W & C,” denoting that it came directly from William and Catherine themselves.
The couple, who are parents to Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, were visibly moved by the tragedy.
In the wake of the attack, King Charles also issued a statement expressing profound shock and sympathy.
“We are profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident,” he said. “We send our most heartfelt condolences, prayers, and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have so tragically lost their lives, and to all those affected by this truly appalling attack.”
Police have confirmed the arrest of a 17-year-old originally from Cardiff in connection with the stabbing.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy stated at a press conference that the suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
According to Kennedy, the children were attending a dance school event when the suspect, armed with a knife, launched the attack.
